Kate Saltonstall Returns to Sandy Cove

We are thrilled that Kate Saltonstall, CFA has recently rejoined the Sandy Cove team. Our firm has benefited from Kate’s investment acumen as both our Chief Investment Officer and Investment Committee Member during the past six years from 2012-2018.  We value Kate’s deep experience across market cycles and are happy to have her back full-time digging into investments strategies for our clients. Many of our early clients remember Kate’s grasp of the investments, calm-demeanor in times of market volatility, and strong focus on helping our clients attain their investment goals.  We think Kate’s return will help our firm continue to provide the best financial guidance we can to our clients while also allowing us to grow our investment and family consulting business.

For those who haven’t met Kate yet, we would like to offer a few pieces of her background we think you’ll find interesting:

  • Over 26 years of investment experience
  • Nine of those years focused on wealth management serving families and individuals
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation since 2001
  • Portfolio manager of a 5 Star, Morningstar rated fund at BlackRock
  • Managed investments through multiple market corrections, the 2008 financial crisis, and the many up markets in between

Kate is an advocate for women in finance and is a member of many Boston and national organizations that are strong mentors and proponents of women's financial education and career development.  Kate is part of the Women's Program Initiative at CFA Boston, SheGives-Boston, Boston Women in Finance, and also volunteers as an educational speaker at such venues as the South Shore YMCA.  Kate has served as a member of the Boston Estate Planning Council’s Women Initiative Committee.

On the more personal side, Kate lives in Hingham with her husband and their furry family --Pepper (black lab) and Darby (British shorthair cat).  They are thrilled to have their adult children live nearby in Cohasset.  When not boating, fishing or near the water, Kate enjoys golf and travel, often times marrying the two activities.

To gain further insights into Kate our colleague, Deirdre and Kate recently played a lightning round Q&A and we thought we’d share her responses below:

Q:  Sports fan of?
A:  Pats, Sox, Bruins in that order. Bring on the duck boats!
Q:  Favorite time of the day?
A:  Sunrise.  I’m an early riser and love the beginning of each day and all the opportunity it represents.
Q:  Invisibility or super strength?
A:  Hmm.  If I can’t have both, I’d have to go with strength.
Q:  Favorite holiday?
A:  Christmas ranks pretty high on the list, but I get pretty excited for Halloween as well.  Costumes aren’t my thing, but my pumpkin carving skills have been described as “professional!”
Q:  Recent bucket list item checked off?
A:  Visiting Ischia, Italy.  This destination had been on my travel list since seeing the island off in the distance during my honeymoon and I’ve wanted to explore it ever since.
Q:  Would you rather cuddle a baby panda or a baby penguin?
A:  Is that a real question?  Panda, hands down.
Q: What is for dinner tonight?
A:  My husband is the chef in the house, so probably something healthy & grilled.  Now I’m craving swordfish!

On a more serious note, we are so pleased to have Kate as part of our Sandy Cove team once again. Please join us in welcoming her back.  We know our clients and colleagues will all benefit from her guidance.
