In the Spotlight: Betsy Cornell, CPA

Betsy recently joined Sandy Cove Advisors with over 15 years of accounting experience. We are so thrilled to have a CPA on our staff to help us (with) in client accounting matters.   Betsy’s expertise and intellectual curiosity make her a great fit for our growing team and provides us with another professional designation, certified public accountant, on our great staff.

Betsy works in the Family Office group of Sandy Cove Advisors performing book keeping and personal financial analysis. Prior to joining Sandy Cove Advisors, Betsy was an Executive Director within J.P. Morgan’s Internal Audit department in New York City. She oversaw the testing of the internal controls for several of their trading businesses, including credit and foreign exchange. Betsy excelled in the ever evolving regulatory environment and enjoyed the opportunities to travel overseas, especially to Latin American.

Prior to joining J. P. Morgan, Betsy was a Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers in their audit practice covering banking and capital markets clients. Having started her career in their Boston office, covering asset management clients, including Affiliated Managers Group and Fidelity, Betsy focused mainly on Goldman Sach’s Asset Management businesses, including the merchant banking and private wealth businesses. Betsy was particularly interested in understanding the company’s methodologies for fair valuing its illiquid and unique holdings, which was particularly challenging during the 2008 financial crisis.

Before Betsy entered the workforce, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Boston College Carroll School of Management with a dual degree in Accounting and Marketing. She then earned her Master’s in Accounting, also from BC’s Carrol School. Shortly after graduating, she earned her Certified Public Accounting (CPA) license.  Some intense years on the education front, but now all that fundamental knowledge is being put to good use on behalf of Sandy Cove’s clients.

On the personal front, there are even more reason to be excited that she is on our team.  Betsy was born and raised in Hingham and now lives in Cohasset so she knows our area well. She enjoys spending time with her husband and young son. Betsy was a competitive athlete growing up, playing soccer and lacrosse in high school and ski racing into college. Today, she channels her competitive spirt into local road races and triathlons. She’s completed seven marathons, including 3 Boston, but has no plans for an eighth. She loves living by the ocean and enjoys all forms of outdoor recreation including golf, tennis, surfing and skiing.

Lastly, we love that Betsy, like us, is someone that loves to give back.  Betsy has always been active in her community. During her time in New York, she served as a volunteer and board member at Free Arts NYC, a non-profit providing art based therapy to underserved children. She’s also been a 7-year participant and team leader at Cycle for Survival, an indoor cycling event, which raises funds for rare cancer research, in honor of her son, a cancer survivor.

Please join us in welcoming Betsy Cornell onto our Sandy Cove team!
